I'm a Biochemistry student and this semester we were taken to see a nuclear reactor... And this is what we got to see, Uranium in work, full nuclear reaction!
The blue light is caused by the Cherenkov effect, which means that particles are traveling faster than light speed in the 10m deep pool that contains the reaction and their excess energy becomes light =).

Awesome shot :D Cherenkov Radiation is pretty cool :)
I hoped to see it happening during my Chemistry Excursion at ANSTO (Aust. Nuclear Science and Tech. Organization) but unfortunately the new Reactor Hall was still under construction so we only got to see the reactor from an overlooking window (which isn't even above the Reactor) :(

thanks for your comment! Too bad you didn't get to see it for yourself, It's quite a thing! (if you know what we're talking about, otherwise it's just a blue light!)
But cheer up, I'm sure you might get another chance one of these days =)

You're welcome :D
Yeah I know what Cherenkov Radiation is about :D But it seems we don't get taught about it in Chemistry, on the Physics class did... so I researched on the net :D
Yeah I hope so :)
